The Toronto Association of Basketball Officials (TABO) seeks constant open communication with our basketball community .. The enjoyment, health and safety of our members, players, spectators, and support staff is paramount. Below is a list of common questions and responses.

How do I become a TABO Official?While there are no prerequisites to becoming a TABO Official, such as having played, coached or refereed basketball or any other sport, there are some minimum requirements, as outlined below, that one must meet. Working as a basketball referee provides no guarantees, no benefits, no pension, and no health plan, you referee because you want to remain close to a game that you enjoy and love. Here are some of the requirements when considering becoming a basketball referee: - Candidates must be a minimum age of 18 years - Available a minimum three (3) days a week (typically from September to May) - Available to officiate games on Friday evenings and throughout the day on Weekends - Available to officiate games that begin at 3pm (arrival time no later than 2:45pm) - Available to officiate games on weekdays between 8am and 4pm - Be in good physical condition - Commitment to accept and carry out assignments as determined by the Assignor(s) - Effective communication skills - Commitment to attend all in-class and on-the-floor education and training sessions - Prepared to financial invest in proper referee uniform and equipment - Energetic, diplomatic, organized, and self-motivated - Calm disposition, especially under stressful situations - Provide own transportation - Provide a Vulnerable Sector Background Check & one reference letter upon membership acceptance​ If this is you, then please feel free to fill out the new membership registration form located at the following link: https://www.torontobasketballofficials.ca/tabo-membership

When is the next New Officials Camp?The Toronto Association of Basketball Officials (TABO) annually conducts a new officials camp typically during the summer months, in preparation for the upcoming season which starts in September. I organize a basketball event and I'd like to request TABO officials. How do I do this and/or who do I contact?Please select the "Request Officials" tab on our home page. There you will find a list of our Assignors who will be more than happy to assist you fill your event with qualified officials, as well you can complete to request form which we will respond to you within 24 hours.
